The Maker’s Mighty Wisdom

This post is going to be a little different than what I usually write. The hymn by Isaac Watts titled “I Sing the Mighty Power of God” spoke powerfully to my heart a few years ago and I’m still using it to meditate on the mighty power of God, our Creator. The hymn draws attention to God’s glory seen through creation and His interaction with it, in such a vivid and beautiful way. I’d like to share the lyrics here along with some photos. May God bless us with a greater vision of His glory and goodness as Creator.

I sing th'almighty power of God, that made the mountains rise,

Mnt. Monadnock in NH from my home town in VT
That spread the flowing seas abroad, and built the lofty skies.
Looking back toward VT from Mt. Monadnock in NH
I sing the wisdom that ordained the sun to rule the day;
The moon shines full at God's command, and all the stars obey.
I sing the goodness of the Lord, who filled the earth with food,
Who formed the creatures through the Word,
and then pronounced them good.
Lord, how Thy wonders are displayed, where're I turn my eye;
If I survey the ground I tread, or gaze upon the sky.
There's not a plant or flower below, but makes Thy glories known,
And clouds arise, and tempests blow, by order from Thy throne;
While all that borrows life from Thee is ever in thy care,
And everywhere that we can be, Thou, God art present there.
