Daughter of the Mountains

Home for me is nestled in a field at the edge of the woods among the varying shades of green (or varying textures of white, depending on the season) that cover the hills of Southern Vermont. As a child I helped plant the garden, kept chickens, and played with friends in the streams on our property when I wasn’t reading.

I have always loved animals – from the time at about 4 years old that I drew plans of a zoo I envisioned building on our property, to my 24th birthday when my family gave me two fluffy goslings and I fell head-over-heels for them. Around that same time, I started reading things about homesteading, expanded my flower garden, and expanded my flower garden again. My bookish, teenage-self had often wondered what “fun” my mom really got out of working outside for hours. I was beginning to understand more of the joy of discovery beyond the page.

Daughter of Creativity

My parents are both very creative people, and they always nurtured creativity in their children. My passion for writing was born when, as a horse-crazy 9-year-old, I read The Black Stallion and decided that I too would write a horse novel – only, the main character would be a girl. I never did finish that novel, but writing began to steal my heart from that moment on.
As far as I can recall, I have only written the words “the end” on a novel manuscript three times. None of those novels are what editors would call “publishable.” But they have been excellent practice for me, not to mention fun! I have dabbled in a few short stories and a bit of poetry as well, but my heart is set on novels of historical fiction.

Daughter of God

God began shining the truth into my heart when I was very young through the teaching and testimony of my parents, through his word, and through excellent preaching and fellowship with believers. Somewhere along the way – I’m not exactly sure when – I believed the gospel for myself. Jesus is my Savior and King who took my place and my punishment on the Cross and gave me the credit of his righteousness. Every day, he is faithful to lead me and teach me and grow me so that I glimpse more of the Glorious One. I pray that you will also catch a glimpse of his glory here.
